Welcome to my Studio – I hope you enjoy your visit!
This week it's all about painting the ocean world in a variety of ways and materials. This piece is a combination of watercolor and ink, combined digitally at the end. I'm starting a hashtag group for all of us to share our different seascapes here and on Facebook. Tag your work #seascapeshare so we can see all the wonderful ways in which we create oceans, beaches, underwater worlds and everything marine inspired! ???? ?? Soli by @kai_engel
You can paint the ocean in so many ways, and with such different media. I have painted it's many moods in watercolor, pastel, inks, oils and acrylics. This piece is with acrylics, but in a wet-in-wet watercolor technique. You are only limited by your boldness! ???? Don't forget I've teamed up with marine artist extraordinaire @scottchristensenartist till Sunday, and can offer anyone wanting to learn how to paint the ocean 35% off his incredibly comprehensive online course. These are the same sharks from my last post, but here they're swimming through a hidden reef ????
I love seeing my paintings become your paintings! So many of my creatures are now a part of you, so feel free to send me your photos! This is the lovely @kanani_kaulukukui, for whom the sharks represent her 3 Keiki (children). A beautifully created tattoo by Aaron from @808tattoohawaii
I visited the beautiful Grey Nurse Sharks of the @aquariumofwesternaustralia at feeding time, swipe right for the video of these graceful creatures. They were the first protected shark in the world, by Australia in 1984. My painting is inspired by the Grey Nurses, you can see my process video a few posts back. My fossilized shark teeth collection is growing....
